Do you have a constant fear of taking tests or semi-final exams? If so, you could be suffering from test anxiety symptoms. You can beat this stress illness but it takes effort and knowledge. |
The Fear Of Finals - Test Anxiety
Your Education Could Depend Upon Your Getting Over Your Fear Of Tests
Testing in schools and colleges is the way most teachers and professors gauge how well the students in the class are doing. However, it is not always entirely accurate for some students, and that has everything to do with test anxiety.
This phenomonon occurs when someone who is normally smart and has a good grasp of the material somehow manages to mess up most exams and quizzes.
They know it, but they become so anxious and stressed out when it is time to be tested that they freeze and do poorly. For some students, this is a huge problem that can really hold them back.
When Did The Test Anxiety Begin?
If your son or daughter (or you) had problems with test anxiety in grade and high school, you should realize that they are going to have the same problem when they go to college.
The difference there is that they are going to be more on their own. There are ways to overcome test anxiety, but some never do. Those that treat the symptoms while in high school do so with the help of parents in many cases, and when the parents are no longer there day in and day out, the panic could come back and be a problem once again.
Should A Person Learn How To Overcome The Fear Of Tests Without Help?
While it is a great idea for them to learn to deal with test anxiety on their own, they should still be able to lean on you on occasion when things are just too much for them. High school is stressful, but college is something that most students realize will affect the rest of their lives. That thought can stress anyone out.
Some Tips About Dealing With Test Anxiety
It wouldnt be a good idea for parents to go to professors or other people on the faculty at a childs college to say the student has test anxiety.
However, the parents can recommend the child does so if they think it might be affecting them again. Most colleges have counselors who can help with this sort of thing. Talking it out might not get a low report raised after the fact, but with help, the student can learn to better manage test anxiety so that they can do better in the future.
